Ryan Stewart, District of North Vancouver Fire Fighters Union President
Ryan began his career as a firefighter with the District of North Vancouver in 2006. He was elected to the position of Vice President of the District of North Vancouver Fire Fighters Union in 2011, moving to the role of union president in 2016.
Concurrently, he also joined the department's Critical Incident Stress (CIS) team in 2011. In his dual role of union executive and CIS team member, he has dealt with a multitude of firefighter mental health issues, from leading critical incident defusing and debriefings, to handling workplace files of members with longer term mental health challenges. He is a department instructor of the Resilient Minds program and has worked alongside other Canadian firefighters advocating the federal government for the creation of a national action plan for post-traumatic stress injuries.
Currently, Ryan is responsible for addressing the challenges for District of North Vancouver Fire Fighters who are responding to and working in an environment of the COVID-19 pandemic.
